Minecraft 1.8 was released on September 2nd 2014 and the following day this happened:

I use Spigot to run my server, which is based off Bukkit but the development team for Spigot is moving forward on their own while Bukkit is still trying to sort stuff out, but that doesn’t mean all this won’t have an impact on Spigot. Almost makes me wish I had gone the way of Forge at this point.

So what does this mean for my family’s server? Well we can either load up a new map using a vanilla version of Minecraft 1.8 or we can sit tight and wait for stuff to get sorted out and updated.

For the time being I would like to sit tight, even though there are a few of us (myself included) that would love to see the new features in place right away. We’ve already launched a brand new map not long ago and I know at least two of the players have been doing a lot of building and development on this map.

However, hardly anyone is playing at this point – again myself included – so I can’t help but feel that the family is unhappy with this new map. We all spread out really far apart this time so there is next to nothing for player interaction or sense of community. Even my husband, the primary reason I even created the family server, hasn’t been able to play for a variety of reasons. This bums me out since I did pay money to launch and run this server.

I’m beginning to wonder if I should make the server public just to make it worth the money I spent, but if I did that I would launch a new map to give it a fresh start. Still wishing I had made the server a Cauldron (the new MCPC+) server so I could have some mods I think are interesting along with the plugins we use now. Some of the mods combined with some plugins have some serious RPG story telling potential.
