  • My husband personally served me the court papers notifying his intent to file for divorce just before he took the boys to the aquarium – and of course my mother wanted to read the paperwork “to keep herself in the loop” and when I wouldn’t let her and told her it was just to notify me of his intent, Dad asked me when the court date was. Told him there wasn’t one yet and he then told me not to get ugly. Told him I wasn’t getting ugly. This paperwork is just the notification. Once I signed it he then has 20 days to send it in to get a court date and I have 20 days to fill out additional paperwork to notify the court my intent to be heard by the judge. The entire point of this process is to give all parties involved a chance to find lawyers if they want them and to make themselves available to appear in court if they wish. When I researched this process it was my understanding it would take at least 6 months to get a court date. And of course my father started with his fear mongering bullshit which I don’t fucking need. The only advice in this mess I need right now is the legal advice from a lawyer.
  • As if the day wasn’t already bad enough… Dad also had to lecture me about how I’m supposedly giving up on Scholar Owl because instead of making him get good grades the way he thinks I should I’ve been planning to sign him up for GED prep classes next year and just let him take the GED exam. So we got into a fight. He makes the comment my son isn’t doing so well because I spend so much time on the computer. I need to get off the computer and make my son do his work. So I turned to him and said, “I can buy him the materials, give him the instruction, but I can’t make him do the actual work.” and he said, “You have to do something besides give up on him.” So I said, “So you mean to tell me I need to sit there and hold his hand and make him write down the answers?” He gave me a stunned look and said he didn’t know. I then told him that I’m tired of him bitching at me like he has all the answers when he doesn’t know anything.
  • So he changed the subject to how I supposedly don’t make my boys do any chores. Um… we have a chore chart and they do everything on that list they have been assigned but I didn’t go there with him because I wanted to see where he was going with this. Sure enough he went on with how Scholar Owl has no motivation and lacks a proper male influence in his life and needs to get out and do stuff, etc. Interesting how Dad has a long list of shit that needs to be done…

Notes

  • logged into Facebook for the first time in ages to discover husband already has himself listed as single
  • Dad launched into yet another speech about Scholar Owl’s lack of motivation and how they do nothing around the house and that’s when I decided to bring up the chore list and asked him what on that list they aren’t doing, he once again gave me a stunned look and said “Well, they shouldn’t have to be told to get it done every day.” And so this is when I reminded him that at their age we had to be reminded every day to get our chores done and he was like, “Yeah okay, whatever.” Can a sibling of mine please verify this with me as to whether or not the chore list while we were growing up was a constant bone of contention? I find it hard to believe that I am the only one to remember it this way and Mom was oddly silent about it, but then again Dad had to take a nasty jab at her with it by saying he couldn’t get after us about our chores because every time he did Mom would go after him about being a chauvinistic pig – which I only remember happening once.
