The Six of Pentacles reminds us during this holiday season to focus upon what we have rather than what we don’t have.
Remember that people can’t give you what they don’t possess.
It’s Christmas Day for many people out there today and I’m aware that it’s not the easy day for everyone.
Usually I view the Six of Pentacles as the card of equivalent exchange but today I’m drawn more to the imagery of this particular card here where there is one that has the resources and there are those that do not.
Now keep in mind that my definition of resources goes beyond just money. It can be anything that we use to create or exchange for something else. So it can be something tangible, such as food, or it can be something intangible, such as time. Essentially a resource is anything we possess that is at our disposal for use however we see fit.
The problem is, during the holidays many of us become keenly aware of our lack. And it’s painful. I’m certainly no exception to this as a divorced parent that is now trying to find compromises during this time of year.
Drawing this card today I think means that there needs to be a greater focus and appreciation for what we have. For what I have. Focusing on only on what isn’t there means there is the risk of missing out on the good in life.
The other thing that catches my attention with this card is how empty handed the two kneeling pandas are. If you are in need right now and the same people continue to fail to meet those needs, it’s time to start asking someone else.
You need to embrace the idea that you won’t ever get a king’s ransom from a beggar. People simply aren’t able to give you what they don’t have even if their heart is in the right place. It doesn’t mean they are bad people. It just means that, like you, they are beggars too who are in need.
So today, focus more on what you do have, find gratitude in that, and then turn towards those that are able to answer whatever remaining slack you may have. Perhaps in doing so you will be able to meet the needs of others with any abundance you discover along the way.
