2019 Chaos Rally #02

The challenge for this coming week focuses on doing more with others so that we can learn to better manage conflict. Read on for all the details!

This Coming Week’s Reading

Intro-01-11-19The purpose of this Chaos Rally tarot reading is to take a look at the coming week and see in what way we can challenge ourselves to do better in regards to our overall wellness. I ask you to approach this as a fun brainstorming session of possibilities rather than me prescribing a course of action to you.

And again, in terms of wellness I want to point out that this applies to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the self. All four of these comprise the total sense of being and need to be taken care of in order to be well. As always, and I cannot stress this enough, be sure to speak to the appropriate professional before making changes to your care plan. This is especially true if my reading for some reason inspires a change in diet, exercise, supplements, or medications, or even raises a concern regarding to your health.

I’m not a specialist in any of these fields. My goal is to look at how to manage wellness in the presence and with the cooperation of your professional care team. Please keep this in mind when going over this reading.

Spread-01-11-19

The Challenge: Seven of Swords

Be more open about your true self with others and be more willing work with those that accept you.

Monday-01-11-19Monday Button’s position represents the challenge you need to be working on at this time. Thus, what you need to be working on right now is found within the Seven of Swords.

This card is often referred to as the “thief card” and there are a variety of reasons for that. Most of them center upon deceit and frequently we tend to assume the card is pointing to the actions of others. However, I often think that when we see this card we need to stop and look inward instead.

What are we actually doing? Are we being honest with ourselves? Are we being honest with those around us?

Look closely at the image of this card. In the background there is a man that is doing something while the woman in the foreground is pressing onward. Is that part of the plan? Or is she leaving him behind to manage things alone? Not exactly sure what he’s doing there. Sharpening the sword? In conflict with someone else? She is guarding the door for him or is she heading out?

I don’t know, but I do know that we have a tendency in life to just assume that everyone is suppose to handle everything on their own – including ourselves. And this is another aspect of the Seven of Swords: the lone wolf and going it alone.

We as humans do not exist in vacuums. We have been created to be social creatures. We were designed to operate and function within groups while maintaining our individuality. Somewhere along the way, our culture has forgotten this. A balance between the group and the one needs to be restored.

So this card being here in the Monday Button position tells me that for this coming week we need to work on being more open about our true selves with others and be more willing work with those that accept us.

The Lesson: Five of Wands

It is important to manage conflict in a healthy and productive manner.

Grim-01-11-19Grim Lee’s position represents what you need to be learning while working on your challenge. Therefore, your lesson at this time is found within the Five of Wands.

Conflict between people, unfortunately, is a natural part of life. What is important is not to avoid conflict, but to manage it in a healthy and productive manner.

Practice active listening, clarification, validation, and empathy during a conflict to increase the chances of you both feeling seen and heard.

Grim-Monday-01-11-19Your voice matters, yes, but you don’t need to mow others down in order to be heard or to completely blow them off. You also need to make sure you are listening to the other side as well.

When it comes to disagreements in any sort of relationship, remember that according to Gottman’s research, you need 5 positive interactions for every 1 negative interaction during a conflict to preserve that relationship.

This means actively listening, asking for more information or clarification, validating their perspective, and showing empathy. It doesn’t mean you need to agree with the other person. This way you have a better chance of both feeling seen and heard during a disagreement.

The Inner Lie: Knight of Disks

While hard work is important, you do not need to be working yourself to complete exhaustion to get where ever it is you need to be.

Murphy-01-11-19Murphy Law’s position represents the false belief you need to overcome while working on your challenge. The inner lie at this time is revealed within the Knight of Disks.

Usually the Knight of Disks (or Pentacles/Coins) talks about hard work through duty and diligence. However, this card has an image that tells a story more akin to rigid obsession. This man is performing some sort of ritual and look how he appears to be wasting away at the torso and how hollow his eyes have become.

I believe the lie here is that while hard work is important, we do not need to be working ourselves to complete exhaustion to get where ever it is we need to be. Rest and relaxation is equally important. Balance is critical here.

Whatever it is you are working on, you should not feel like you must do it alone.

Murphy-Monday-01-11-19Whatever it is you are working on, you should not feel like you must do it alone.

Take some time to absorb the imagery of these two cards together and what they mean side by side. See the man wasting away as he continues to perform his ritual alone on the left card. See the woman at the doorway preparing to face something and how there is a man behind her on the right card.

Doing everything alone takes a greater toll than doing things with others. We are always stronger in numbers.

Your way isn’t always the only way in life.

Murphy-Grim-01-11-19Another reason to avoid locking yourself into rigidity is you increase your likelihood for conflict with others. Black and white thinking, also known as splitting, doesn’t have room for the points of view of others and never mind compromise.

The world is a giant sea of gray. Seldom is ever anything all good or all bad. Yet, it’s easier when we look at things through this sort of lens and, as the human beings we are, the things we prefer tend to be what gets listed as good. We need to step back and keep this in mind whenever we find ourselves in a conflict.

Your way isn’t always the only way in life. It is always worth taking the time to listen and learn from someone else’s perspective, even when you don’t agree with them.

Making an effort to work with others and having an open mind while doing so, will improve your health and boost your energy levels.

Murphy-Monday-Grim-01-11-19As suggested in these three cards, working yourself to exhaustion leads to increased isolation and greater conflict with others.

Making an effort to work with others and having an open mind while doing so, will improve your health and boost your energy levels.

The Wisdom: Strength

Sometimes true strength comes from being patient.

Toad-01-11-19Wise Toad’s position represents the wisdom to keep in mind as you work on your challenge. The wisdom you need at this time is found within Strength.

The story of the image in this card isn’t about the creature in the air, but actually about the one carrying the block. Shoggoth are the slaves building the wall you see here. During the entire time they endure pain and cruelty as they do their work. I believe they eventually rebel and gain their freedom.

The wisdom here is that sometimes true strength comes from being patient.

There is strength in numbers, but it also requires patience to work cooperatively within those numbers.

Toad-Monday-01-11-19There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

There is strength in numbers, but it also requires patience to work cooperatively within those numbers. Without that patience the numbers mean nothing.

Patience is also needed during conflict to actively listen to others’ point of view and work out a compromise when necessary.

Toad-Grim-01-11-19Patience is also needed during conflict to actively listen to others’ point of view and work out a compromise when necessary. We are more likely to be heard when we make the effort to hear the other side as well.

While hard work and diligence is important in reaching your goals, it is vital to your total wellness to have patience, listen to your body, and pace yourself appropriately.

Toad-Murphy-01-11-19While hard work and diligence is important in reaching our goals, it is vital to our total wellness to have patience, listen to our bodies, and pace ourselves appropriately. If we don’t we are going to burn out and wreck ourselves.

Conclusion

By working more with others you learn better conflict management, conserve your energy, and develop patience while accomplishing your goals.

Team-01-11-19Okay, so let’s pull back and look at the entire spread again to recap this coming week’s wellness challenge.

The challenge is to do more with others so that we can learn to better manage conflict and overcome the internal lie that we need to work ourselves to into the ground in order to accomplish our goals. The wisdom we need to keep in mind throughout all of this is to have patience in all things.
