According to folk-lore, the New Moon and waxing phases are fertile and wet. This is the best time to set intentions, start goals, and launch projects. Meanwhile the Full Moon and waning phases, the tide recedes and thus things dry up. So this is a good time to thin, weed out, and prune.
Since we have a New Moon this weekend, I’d like to do a reading with all of you that explores the energies of the Four Pillars of Wellness and our current point in the Journey of Life. In doing so we can take the time to consider what we do and don’t want in our lives and set the appropriate intentions and goals towards what we desire.
Here is what the layout of the spread looks like.
The Fool at the bottom in the center shows the position representing the Current Point in the Life’s Journey. This is the first card in the spread and shows where we’re currently at energetically in life.
The next position is shown with the Ace of Wands and represents the current Spiritual Needs to consider as we move forward into the month ahead.
The Ace of Cups shows the third position in the spread and represents the current Emotional Needs to consider in context of our current path.
This is followed by the Ace of Swords depicting the fourth position to represent the mental needs at the time of the reading.
The final card in the reading is depicted by the Ace of Pentacles and represents the current physical needs.
When looking at each of these cards, some things you need to consider is what sort of goals do you want to set in light of this energy, where are you currently, and where do you want to be going?
So that’s the breakdown of the spread, let’s get to the reading for this New Moon.
Here is the spread for this New Moon’s reading.
Current Point on Life’s Path – Eight of Wands
Flight of Ideas
For those of us that are writers preparing for NaNoWriMo next month, this is an awesome card to see. Put pen to paper and get those creative juices flowing. Outlines, character sketches, and whatever else you need to have that novel ready to fly on the first of November.
Whether you will be participating in NaNoWriMo or not, this is also an excellent time for all types of creative pursuits, projects, and problem-solving. Halloween and Samhain is at the end of the month, so there are plenty of reasons for arts and crafts, decorations, and parties.
Don’t be afraid to do whatever it is you’d like to do this month that will make your heart sing and zing.
Spiritual Needs – Seven of Wands
Hold the Line
You know where you want to go, what you want to do, and who you need to be. Do not allow anyone to force you to back down from this. Define those hard line boundaries this month and hold them with everything you’ve got.
Emotional Needs – Two of Cups
The emotional aspect of the Self calls for harmony and unity in differences. While it is important to love the Self, passion, pleasure, mutual love, and even mirth dies through the filter of the selfish ego.
Care must be taken to step outside of the ego and make the effort to understand the Other, and be understood by the Other, in order to establish the true connections the heart desires. It’s only through these connections that harmony is found.
Mental Needs – Seven of Cups
The mental aspect of the Self calls for a reality check with one’s life course and situation at this time. Really take the time to face the truth of what is going on around you and the options before you. Keep your feet firmly planted on the ground as you make plans and be sure you have all the information before making any commitments.
While it may be true that the heart wants what it wants, just make sure sure you act within the realm of what is real.
Physical Needs – Two of Wands
The physical aspect of the Self calls for the determination and will to conquer. There is a restless need to do, move, and act. There is a creative flow of energy here to fuel whatever projects or tasks you intend to carry out.
For those of you that are used to spending most of your day sitting, this card encourages you to consider adding gentle movement into your routine in order to release some of that restless energy being suggested here. As always, consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise program.
Looks to be a Busy Month Ahead
In light of this, we will need to have a solid idea of what our boundaries really are and to fortify them. By doing this we protect our energy and stay on track with our goals. We also need to be sure that we seek harmony in everything we do. This isn’t just for us. It’s also for the well-being of those we interact with also.
As all of this is going on, we need to keep tabs with what is real and true the entire way. With all of this buzz it could be really easy to get carried away with our heads in the clouds. So it’s important we plant our feet firmly on the ground and carefully use our discernment this month. Are we seeing people, things, and situations for what they really are? Are we making wise decisions?
The final card in the spread is the Two of Wands, suggesting restlessness and the need to conquer. The fact that it landed in the physical arena and that this entire reading contains only fire and water cards further amplifies this sense of agitation. The best way to release this feeling is through physical activity of some kind each day. Finding clarity of thought and emotions is an added benefit in doing this daily.
