In this coming week’s wellness tarot challenge, we explore when emotions no longer have control, it gives you the freedom to make more self-aware choices in life. Read on for details!
This Coming Week’s Reading
The purpose of this Chaos Rally tarot reading is to take a look at the coming week and see in what way we can challenge ourselves to do better in regards to our overall wellness. I ask you to approach this as a fun brainstorming session of possibilities rather than me prescribing a course of action to you.
And again, in terms of wellness I want to point out that this applies to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the self. All four of these comprise the total sense of being and need to be taken care of in order to be well. As always, and I cannot stress this enough, be sure to speak to the appropriate professional before making changes to your care plan. This is especially true if my reading for some reason inspires a change in diet, exercise, supplements, or medications, or even raises a concern regarding to your health.
I’m not a specialist in any of these fields. My goal is to look at how to manage wellness in the presence and with the cooperation of your professional care team. Please keep this in mind when going over this reading.

The Challenge: The Lovers
Become mindful of which side of you is making the choices you make and why.
Monday Button’s position represents the challenge you need to be working on at this time. Thus, what you need to be working on right now is found within the Lovers.
I still say that metaphorically this card represents choosing between the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge. Here the image has an organic, living tree on the right and an inorganic, steam-powered tree on the left.
So what’s the deal with the couple between the two trees, you ask? I strongly feel they represent our two brains. One is our higher, self-aware consciousness (the Tree of Life). The other is the animal, biological impulses (the Tree of Knowledge). We can choose which one rules us: the physical body or the higher being that we actually are.
The challenge this coming week is to become mindful of which side of you is making the choices you make and why.
The Lesson: Ace of Cups
Acknowledge that emotions are valid and need to be expressed in a healthy way as they arise.
Emotions are energy in motion and like water do best when allowed to flow freely. When we block our emotions, they stagnate just like standing water does. Stagnant emotions will build up and will find ways to leak through our behavior or health. If too much pressure is created, explosions occur. We blow up at others. We breakdown. We become desperately ill.
The lesson here is to acknowledge that emotions are valid and need to be expressed in a healthy way as they arise.
We don’t choose how we feel but we can choose how we behave in response to our feelings.
The second thing we need to understand about emotions is they are messengers from the animal brain as a result from what the subconscious mind picks up from the world around us. So no, we don’t choose how we feel but we can choose how we behave in response to our feelings.
How do we do this? First, we take the time to name and claim what it is we actually feel. Not a generalized label, but a nuanced label for the emotion. Why say anxious or worried if the word dread actually fits what you feel, for example? As a writer I can tell you that words have power, and it really is deeply gratifying in having exactly the right word for something. This is especially true for what you’re feeling and the reason for this is once you have named and claimed it, you can finally do something concrete about it.
Let’s take the dread example. Why do you dread whatever it is? What can you do to make it less dreadful? Even a half step is better than none. You now have an action plan.
A final note about all of this regarding other people and your emotions before we move on: if you don’t like how someone makes you feel, set boundaries. Boundaries isn’t about controlling how others behave in order for you to feel good. It’s about how you choose to behave in response to how you feel about their behavior. It’s completely okay for you to say something along the lines of, “This doesn’t right to me, I’m leaving.”
The Inner Lie: Queen of Wands
Nurture whatever it is that sparks your creative flow.
Queens represent the mature feminine energy within the court while wands represent the courageous and passionate spark of the soul. So here with the Queen of Wands you have the creative flow, radiance, and nurturing combined with the courage, confidence, and assertive certainty.
Many of us believe we don’t possess these qualities when in fact, we do. Every single human being possesses both feminine and masculine energy and this is what makes us whole. We don’t need to find the “other half” in someone else in order to be complete. That is a misguided and romanticized belief perpetuated in society.
What sparks your creative flow and makes you glow? Nurture that and as it brings you more joy, you will find greater the confidence, courage, and assertive certainty you need.
Achieving your dreams require discipline and not allowing your body to mindlessly run the show.
Dream of running your own business? You’ll need to give up being a couch potato on your time off in order to make that happen. You’ll also need to sacrifice time elsewhere to get the job done because at first you won’t have the money to pay anyone to do the work for you.
Want to be a star athlete? Again, you’ll need to sacrifice the time elsewhere to get that training in. You will also need to eat a proper diet and get quality sleep.
The list goes on, but all of it requires discipline and not allowing your body to mindlessly run the show. Don’t live your life on autopilot.
Transform your emotions into a fuel that powers you forward.
Remember, energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be transferred, transformed, or transmuted. So you may as well transform your emotions into a fuel that powers you forward.
You go where you flow goes.
As you get better at doing this, you’ll find your flow will move in a singular direction which is the one you desire. And you go where you flow goes.
The Wisdom: Nine of Swords
Do whatever it takes to release your need to control everything because you can’t.
This card is the worry and dread card. It’s all the stuff that keeps us up at night thanks to anxiety.
The wisdom here is to do whatever it takes to release your need to control everything because you can’t.
If your anxiety truly is that bad, seek professional help – be it a doctor, a counselor, a therapist, or whomever, it doesn’t matter. Get that help. Don’t allow this to wreck your health.
Be willing to be vulnerable and have the courage to step forward outside of fear.
We will avoid what could be amazing opportunities for ourselves. We push people away that are otherwise highly supportive. We deprive ourselves of sleep, which perpetuates the anxiety cycle. We remain in our tight little comfort zones and sometimes as a result deny ourselves a life worth living.
Again, all of this is when we allow the body to run the show instead of being willing to be vulnerable and having the courage to step forward outside of fear.
If you can resolve the issue right now, do it. If not, move to the next step: emotional first aid.
See how the woman in the Nine of Swords is trying to block out whatever it is she is thinking and feeling in the image? Don’t do that. Be like the image in the Ace of Cups. Allow it to flow and take action.
Why do you feel fear or anxiety? What is the one thing you need to do right now to improve your situation? If you can resolve the issue right now, do it. If not, move to the next step: emotional first aid.
Use your fear to nurture yourself into something stronger during these times.
When your emotions no longer have control, it gives you the freedom to make more self-aware choices.
By learning how to use your fear to nurture yourself into a stronger person, you become more adept in utilizing emotions as energy to create instead of allowing them control you in your life. Doing so gives you the freedom to make more self-aware choices.
