According to folk-lore, the New Moon and waxing phases are fertile and wet. This is the best time to set intentions, start goals, and launch projects. Meanwhile the Full Moon and waning phases, the tide recedes and thus things dry up. So this is a good time to thin, weed out, and prune.
Another New Moon is upon us and now is the time to clarify our intentions and solidify our commitments for the lunar month ahead. With today’s reading we will explore the energies of the Four Pillars of Wellness and our current point in the Journey of Life. In doing so we can take the time to consider what we do and don’t want in our lives and set the appropriate intentions and goals towards what we desire.
Here is the spread for this New Moon’s reading.
Current Point on Life’s Path – Queen of Wands
Go where you are celebrated, not just tolerated.
This queen understands that we are all interconnected and, ultimately, interdependent. No human being exists within a vacuum. Knowing this, she tends to those her social circle like a garden. She weeds out the unhealthy dynamics in her life to make room for the healthy ones to flourish.
With this in mind, take the time to consider the interpersonal dynamics in all areas of your life. Which ones are unhealthy that can be mended? Which ones are unhealthy that need to be let go of? Which ones are healthy and need to be strengthened?
It is often said we are the average sum of the five people we spend the most time with. Who are these people in your life? Do they embody and represent the life you wish to live? Do they nourish and uplift you or do they bring you down and drain you? Are you there for each other when it is most needed?
Your success and well-being in life greatly depends on the quality of your relationships. Go where you are celebrated, not just tolerated. Create new friendships and bonds whenever necessary.
Spiritual Needs – Page of Wands
Examine what it is you do each day that brings you joy.
The Page of Wands represents the physical (earth) merging with the soul (fire). In a practical light, this card asks you to examine what it is you do each day that brings you joy and thus, lights the fire within you.
Which activities make you feel good about yourself and the world around you? Which of these can be done on a daily basis?
Looking at these two cards together, examine how you are spending your time with others. Are these experiences largely uplifting or do they typically leave you drained? Try spending more time with those that leave you feeling supported and lighter while doing things both parties enjoy doing.
Emotional Needs – Page of Swords
Behave in ways that is true to your authentic self.
What you think reflects how you feel. What you do reflects how you think.
Are you behaving in ways that is true to your authentic self? When we remain in alignment with our values and act with integrity in all that we do, we find true peace within ourselves.
The depth of the negative emotions we feel at any particular time reflects how far we have deviated from our truth and life path in the moment.
What in your life needs to be changed in order to realign yourself with your authentic self, and thus, restoring positive emotions?
Without a true sense of belonging with others, your soul is crushed. It eats away at the mind, drains your energy, and brings your emotional experience down.
If you are not surrounded by those that embrace your true self, it is time to step into your vulnerability and find those that will.
Your authentic self, and the truth it holds, knows exactly what brings you peace, joy, and a sense of purpose. Take the time to learn this truth if you haven’t already and start building routines around what it is you love to do.
Mental Needs – Temperance
Moderation in all things.
The human mind can really only focus on one thing at a time. When we multi-task, what we’re actually doing is rapidly switching our attention between tasks and training the mind into a micro-attention span. Over time, this makes it more difficult to concentrate during the times we need it most.
Temperance encourages moderation in all things. Where in life are you overloading yourself? Don’t be afraid to ask for more help and support when you need it. Don’t be afraid to delegate or say no when your plate becomes full. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to rest whenever it is needed.
Do the people in your life support moderation, or do they push you into overwhelm? Boundaries need to be put into place for those that constantly overwhelm you or fail to support what it is you do in your life.
Take an honest look at your weekly routine. Which days do you typically feel more drained and empty than others? Ask yourself why this is happening and what sort of adjustments you can do in order to refill your energetic cup.
When you balance your life, and thus your energetic account, you find more peace and contentment. It is easier to remain more positive in life when you’re not constantly trying to juggle so many things at once. It’s also easier to live and speak your truth when your mind isn’t overly cluttered.
Consider developing functional and reliable organization methods that work for you to help you stay on track and keep your mind at ease.
Physical Needs – King of Cups
Align your intentions with your desires.
The King of Cups represents the soul (fire) driving the heart (water). What feels right to you when it comes to your physical well-being? Intention and desire need to be in alignment in order to accomplish the changes you want.
You can say every day that you need to exercise but if you lack the drive it’s not likely to happen. Choose activities you enjoy doing that will get you moving around.
If you are changing your diet, make sure you are still eating foods that look and taste appealing to you within the new diet. Food is life after all, and needs to be enjoyed rather than endured.
Find care providers that you feel good about talking to whenever possible. You can’t entrust your wellness into the hands of those that make you feel bad.
Are you surrounded by people that honor, support, and protect your wellness? If not, it’s time to start setting healthy boundaries around this. If they are unable to respect these boundaries, then it’s time to spend more time with different people.
Pay attention to how you feel when you do things. Not just in terms of your energy, but physically too. It’s good for you if you find yourself energized and expanded while doing it. Anything that feels like you are contracting inside isn’t right for you. Living a healthy life shouldn’t be a miserable task.
Your physical well-being is directly impacted by the types of thoughts and emotions that dominate your life. When you are not being authentic, you are more likely to suffer from negativity. Persistent negativity erodes health over time.
Take the time to consider what changes you can make in your life to increase the overall positivity in it.
Even exercise, dieting, and sleep needs to be managed in a healthy balance. Listen to your body for it will tell you when you are doing the right things for yourself. When you are doing the right things for you in each area, your wellness improves and your energy increases.
Don’t be afraid to experiment to find what works for you. Your wellness care plan doesn’t need to look a certain way or match whatever anyone else is doing.
Be willing to give and receive support in everything you do.
Are you doing the things you love and things that bring you joy? Do you know what these things are? How can you incorporate more of these activities into your daily life?
Are you living an authentic life right now? In what ways can you become more true to yourself on a daily basis?
Is your life in balance right now? If not, what can you do to restore balance for yourself? Maintaining this balance brings harmony into your daily experience.
Pay attention to how you feel as you go about your day. What makes you feel good and well? What makes you feel bad and unwell? What changes do you need to make at this time?
Since the life path card points to our social lives, focusing on improving the quality of our relationships will greatly improve all areas of our lives. It’s critical we are willing to give and receive needed support in everything we do. If this isn’t happening, something needs to change.
