Lunar Intentions 2020 – August

According to folk-lore, the New Moon and waxing phases are fertile and wet. This is the best time to set intentions, start goals, and launch projects. Meanwhile the Full Moon and waning phases, the tide recedes and thus things dry up. So this is a good time to thin, weed out, and prune.

Another New Moon is upon us and now is the time to clarify our intentions and solidify our commitments for the lunar month ahead. With today’s reading we will explore the energies of the Four Pillars of Wellness and our current point in the Journey of Life. In doing so we can take the time to consider what we do and don’t want in our lives and set the appropriate intentions and goals towards what we desire.

Here is the spread for this New Moon’s reading.

Current Point on Life’s Path – King of Cups

Improve your skills in holding space.

The King of Cups is the master of the heart. This is someone that knows how to hold space for the Self and for the Other without qualm.

This lunar cycle places us on a path to improve your skills in holding space. To hold space means to allow emotions to flow without judgement or a need for control.

Emotions just are. They don’t need to be judged, controlled, or fixed. They only need to be acknowledged and felt.

To be clear, this doesn’t mean we allow emotions to control us and our behavior. It just means we allow the emotions to be what they are as we mindfully choose our behavior. This is what true emotional control looks like.

Spiritual Needs – Ace of Cups

Experiment with various art forms to express your emotions.

The Ace of Cups represents the intuitive and creative expression of emotion.

Spiritually we all need to feel connected to ourselves and with others. One of the ways we do this is through the expression of our emotions. And one of the best ways to emotionally connect with others is through various forms of art.

Which form of art helps you to express yourself best? Do different forms help with different emotions? Experiment with various art forms to express your emotions.

When expressing yourself through art, do not judge yourself. It is particularly important during this process to hold that space for yourself. Allow yourself to experiment and explore. Permit yourself to feel.

Emotional Needs – Five of Cups

Continue to honor feelings of grief each time they return.

The Five of Cups represents the sadness that comes from grief, regret, and disappointment.

Notice the waves in the image of this card. Yes, sometimes these feelings do come back. This is okay. Continue to honor them each time they return and process them so they can ebb as they need to.

Hold space for yourself or others whenever grief arises. Healing has no timeline and is cyclic rather than linear. Judging yourself or someone else for not being over it yet isn’t helpful. It does more harm than good.

Expressing emotions can be challenging but until they are processed and expressed, they will sit there and fester. Allow your intuition to be your guide in order to come up with a creative solution.

Mental Needs – The Hermit

Have the ability to critically think for yourself.

The Hermit represents the independent thought process. The easiest way to achieve this is through solitude, but it can still be done in the presence of others. In fact, there comes a point where the Hermit is able to teach others so this card doesn’t always mean isolation. But it does mean having the ability to critically think for yourself.

Holding space for someone else does not mean enmeshing yourself with that person. Nor does it mean you agree with everything they say. It simply means you remain open and provide them with safety as they speak freely.

True creativity means thinking for yourself without worry about what anyone else is doing or thinking. It means speaking and creating your truth from the heart. If you are constantly concerned about everyone else, then your creations become polluted by outside influence.

Name, claim, and sit with your feelings – even the difficult ones. Don’t allow anyone else to dictate how you should or shouldn’t feel.

Physical Needs – Page of Pentacles

Explore, learn, or master a skill within the physical realm.

Pages are the students or children of the Tarot court while Pentacles represent the physical realm. Here there is a need to explore, learn, or master a skill within this realm.

This skill could be cooking, gardening, a new exercise routine, or even a manual labor type of job. The possibilities are endless really so long as it involves the physical realm.

Once again, hold space for yourself as you develop this skill. No one becomes a master overnight. And as the old saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Keep in mind that many art forms are physical. Dancing, sculpting, painting, playing music, singing, and many more all involve the body. There are plenty of ways to physically express yourself.

Unprocessed emotions remain in the body as biochemical signals. Over time this creates damage, which in turn creates illness. Just for your physical health alone, it is important to allow yourself to process and release your emotions.

While having teachers is valuable, it is still important to think critically for yourself. Ask questions. Advocate for yourself about what is and isn’t working to improve your understanding and abilities. You need to be able to assess your own development and progress as well in order to evolve.

Conclusion

The ability express yourself freely is a valuable skill to have.
