This Coming Week’s Reading

CR-01-Week-36-2020

The purpose of this Chaos Rally tarot reading is to take a look at the coming week and see in what way we can challenge ourselves to do better in regards to our overall wellness. I ask you to approach this as a fun brainstorming session of possibilities rather than me prescribing a course of action to you.

And again, in terms of wellness I want to point out that this applies to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the self. All four of these comprise the total sense of being and need to be taken care of in order to be well. As always, and I cannot stress this enough, be sure to speak to the appropriate professional before making changes to your care plan. This is especially true if my reading for some reason inspires a change in diet, exercise, supplements, or medications, or even raises a concern regarding to your health.

I’m not a specialist in any of these fields. My goal is to look at how to manage wellness in the presence and with the cooperation of your professional care team. Please keep this in mind when going over this reading.

The Challenge: Queen of Cups

This coming week, work on improving your skill in holding space for emotions.

CR-03-Week-36-2020

Monday Button’s position represents the challenge you need to be working on at this time. Thus, what you need to be working on right now is found within the Queen of Cups.

This coming week we are being asked to improve our skills in holding space for emotions. This applies to ourselves and to others. Holding space means to be fully present and open in the moment without judgement. And in terms of emotions, this means to allow this energy to flow without resistance even if it makes us uncomfortable.

The Lesson: The Hierophant

Learn to know when to conform with society and when to go your own way.

CR-04-Week-36-2020

Grim Lee’s position represents what you need to be learning while working on your challenge. Therefore, your lesson at this time is found within the Hierophant.

Learn to know when to conform with society and when to go your own way. We all need interpersonal connection, so going your own way all the time isn’t possible. However, we also need the space to be independent as well. Traditions are nice, but not when they become suffocating.

Contrary to popular opinion, we need to be willing to embrace the full spectrum of emotions in order to be healthy human beings.

CR-05-Week-36-2020

In most societies, we have been taught to numb our emotions. This is especially the case with negative emotions, but we have also been taught to shun emotions perceived as childish as well. Joy is not an emotion exclusive to children, for example.

Contrary to popular opinion, we need to be willing to embrace the full spectrum of emotions in order to be healthy human beings.

The Inner Lie: Nine of Pentacles

You can’t be all work or all play. There must be a balance between the two in order to have a meaningful life.

CR-06-Week-36-2020

Murphy Law’s position represents the false belief you need to overcome while working on your challenge. The inner lie at this time is revealed within the Nine of Pentacles.

You do in fact deserve to enjoy whatever luxuries you’ve worked for and happen to have. I don’t care what income bracket you happen to fall in. If you managed to save up enough to buy yourself a gift, enjoy it. If someone else got you that gift, enjoy it. If the best you can do at the moment is enjoy some fresh air, then enjoy it. Don’t let anyone shame or guilt you out of it.

What good is busting your ass for a better life if you never get to enjoy it? At what point do you arrive? I’m not saying throw all your money away. I firmly believe that you must work as hard as you play. And the harder you work, the more important it is to take time out to play. There must be a balance between the two in order to have a meaningful life. You can’t be all one or the other.

The reality is, emotions are not a luxury. Emotions are a basic human function of the subconscious mind serving as messenger signals within the body. Most often, these signals indicate a need.

CR-07-Week-36-2020

I used the words luxury and play to describe the Nine of Pentacles earlier because this is what often comes to mind for me when I think of leisure. Another word that also comes to mind and that’s rest. Perhaps it says a lot about me and the culture I live in for those words to get lumped in with leisure.

So I’m looking at the Nine of Pentacles and thinking of those words, and then I look at the Queen of Cups to consider how it pairs with holding space for emotions. I also live in a world where it seems like emotional expression seems to be a luxury and it makes me wonder how many other people feel the same way.

How often do you have the freedom to cry? Or laugh? Or to simply state what it is you feel out in the open? To yourself? To someone else?

The reality is, emotions are not a luxury. Emotions are a basic human function of the subconscious mind serving as messenger signals within the body. Most often, these signals indicate a need.

When we get the rest we need, we are better equipped to respond to emotions in a healthy way. This includes holding the space we need to hold while trying to figure out what needs to be done. It’s important to remember here that all emotions are valid, even negative ones, because it means there are unmet needs to be addressed.

Don’t deny yourself the things you know you need regardless of whatever the people around you may have to say about it.

CR-08-Week-36-2020

Society dictates and assumes a lot of things. However, what might be a luxury for one person could be a necessity for another. As a member of the disability and special needs community, I am well aware of this.

I don’t need automatic doors or doors that hold themselves open yet, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone else that does. Do I benefit from them? Yes.

Few people realize that texting was originally invented for the Deaf and hard of hearing. You bet your ass I rely on that every day. If that ever went away I’d be screwed.

I’m aware of the debate about pre-peeled oranges you can buy that’s going around online. My hands are getting worse every day and I need to ask my sons for help with things more often as time goes on. I’m allergic to oranges, otherwise I’d look into this product. Knowing my luck, I wouldn’t be able to open the packaging they’re in without a struggle. But for people that can open the packaging but not peel the fruit, I support this. I know these companies use the peelings in other products elsewhere. The packaging can be addressed in other ways. I don’t see how it’s different from pre-made salads – something I do buy to save myself from peeling and chopping vegetables.

I’m sure there are a bunch of other little things I’m not thinking of right now that could be added to this list, but the point here is don’t deny yourself the things you know you need regardless of whatever the people around you may have to say about it.

You don’t need someone else to validate your thoughts, your feelings, your behaviors, or the management of your needs so long as you are willing to hold space for yourself.

CR-09-Week-36-2020

People are going to think whatever it is they’re going to think no matter what you do. You have zero control over that. You can try to do everything you think the people around you wants you to do and still piss them off in some way. There really isn’t any point in making yourself miserable for that.

What you do have control over is your thoughts, the response to your emotions, your behavior, and the management of your needs. You don’t need someone else to validate any of those so long as you are willing to hold space for yourself.

If someone else isn’t willing or able to meet your needs, you have the right to ask someone else. You have the right to talk to a different friend. You have the right to end a relationship. To speak in terms of metaphors, you don’t go to a hardware store with the intent to buy bread. So don’t do this with your interpersonal interactions. If you need bread, find a grocery store or bakery.

The Wisdom: Eight of Wands

Which are you doing? Choosing for yourself, or allowing life to decide for you?

CR-10-Week-36-2020

Wise Toad’s position represents the wisdom to keep in mind as you work on your challenge. The wisdom you need at this time is found within the Eight of Wands.

Look at these rods in the image of this card. Once they were launched, there’s no taking them back. They’re flying through the air until the hit their target.

I take this to mean to commit to the choices you make. You have no real way of knowing how any of the many options you have is going to unfold at any given time. So just pick the one that makes the most sense to you and commit to it. Let that arrow fly so to speak.

Yeah, maybe it doesn’t pan out the way you hoped but the other choice could have been worse too. You don’t have any way to know and that’s the point.

Life moves forward with or without you. It will unfold whether you make a choice or not. In fact, doing nothing is a choice all on its own. So which are you doing? Choosing for yourself, or allowing life to decide for you?

Holding space means being aware of your emotions without allowing them to take the driver’s seat of your life.

CR-11-Week-36-2020

Holding space means being aware of your emotions. Name them, claim them, sit with them, and then consciously take action. It does not mean allowing your emotions to take the driver’s seat. Attempting to stuff your emotions in the trunk of the car usually means the car ends up exploding or breaking down.

So again, are you actively choosing the direction you are going in life or is life choosing for you?

The moment you allow society to dictate the direction of your life is the moment you give your power away.

CR-12-Week-36-2020

The moment you allow society to dictate the direction of your life is the moment you give your power away. And by society here, I mean your friends and family. Yes, they mean well but you are the one that has to live your life. You are the one that walks in your shoes and you are the one that has to face whatever regrets that may come from ignoring your needs and dreams.

Define what a quality life looks like and feels like for you. Define what your needs are. Commit to making it happen.

CR-13-Week-36-2020

Define what a quality life looks like and feels like for you. Define what your needs are.

What does the balance of work, play, and rest look like for you? What kind of supports, if any, do you need?

How much of this is already met? How much of this remains unmet? What do you need to do to meet the unmet needs?

Be really honest with yourself here and commit to making it happen.

Conclusion

Above all, hold space for yourself by being willing to be vulnerable with yourself. The more you can do that with yourself, the easier it becomes to do it for others.

CR-14-Week-36-2020

Abandon the idea of what society says about emotions in particular. Toxic positivity is a thing and serves no one. Be mindful about how you label your needs so you aren’t dismissing or minimizing them. Commit to the choices you make and just go for it since a life filled with regret is not worth it.

But above all, hold space for yourself by being willing to be vulnerable with yourself. The more you can do that with yourself, the easier it becomes to do it for others.
