It’s hard to think of a reason to be grateful for a heartbreaking experience, but sometimes a heartbreak of some kind can strengthen our resolve elsewhere. Think of a time in your life where pain inspired you to become resolute about something. What was this event? What did you resolve to do as a result of this event? Do you feel like you have become a better person because of it? Take the opportunity to describe all of this in your journal, releasing the pain from the event and expressing gratitude for the growth.
If you can only think of one thing you’re grateful for to write about in your journal, that’s okay. One thing is better than nothing, right? And if for some reason this prompt is leaving you stumped, you can always write about something else you’re grateful for instead. The entire point of this is to get you started, not to confine you in any way. Happy writing!
