The Queen of Disks reminds us that the work we do must come from our heart and passions.
If they don’t we will only find ourselves drained and without joy.
It’s too easy to get caught up in the busyness of life – especially when you’re a parent and are juggling many tasks at once. I imagine this is true of anyone with multiple pots going at once. If we’re not careful, we can find ourselves quickly overwhelmed and isolated.
So it’s important to remember why we’re doing any of this. What is the driving purpose behind all of it? Like what do you suppose this woman is doing in the picture of this card? She is making medicine? Baking a cake? I don’t know. What I do know is that she is very focused upon her task and she is in that room alone as she’s doing it. Is it truly necessary for her to be alone in that room? Could she use an extra pair of hands? Again, I don’t know.
Now, what if it was you in that room instead? What would you be doing? What would you be making? Would you need help? Would you be happy to be there?
Me? I can’t wrap presents for shit. I’ve got a fine mess in here. I did at least plan ahead and bought lots of tape and plenty of spare paper. And this year I’m embracing the “good enough” mantra. If I get the gift covered, it’s good enough and it’s going under the tree. I’m not winning any Printerest prizes this year – or any year for that matter. What does matter is seeing the faces of my children light up in the morning tomorrow.
