The Kingdom of Agaricus – Minecraft Open World Adventure Server Map

I haven’t posted in awhile. Sorry about that. I’ve been working pretty hard on a map project. Even made a YouTube video of it for the map’s story prologue. I wish Spigot was compatible with 1.8 which will be released soon so I could add it to the family server as an RPG map.

In any case I have the project download posted over at PlanetMinecraft here.

Toad Family Server Relaunched!

It’s been awhile since my last post and I apologize for that. I’ve been busy starting the server over with a brand new map. We were suddenly having issues with spawning into a void like area and eventually getting kicked off the server for “floating too long” or some such thing. We had areas that had chunks missing – all the way down through the bedrock into the void. Even when downloading a copy of these maps, the errors/bugs/glitches persisted. I can only assume it was caused by all my tinkering and experimentation with plugins. I did a lot of installing and uninstalling of those plugins so it’s hard to say just what exactly was the cause. With that said, I had no way of repairing the damage. There was no choice but to restart the server with a fresh seed and a new server central. This time I decided we only needed three worlds: Survival, Creative and PvP. This covers all the play styles of our family.

Here’s a few screenshots of our new Server Central located next to a Mushroom Island in our Survival world:

Haven Hearth – My Building Project for the July 2014 PMC Building Contest

Since July started, I’ve been working on this project for a building contest over at PlanetMinecraft.com. I’ll be tracking my progress here in this entry with screenshots until the end of the contest.

If you like what you see and the progress I’ve made so far, please show this contest entry some love and your support with a diamond on the PMC site! Continue reading

Mini Dungeon Progress and a New First Spawn World

Here is the current to-do list for the mini dungeon:

To-Do List:

  • add more monsters/spawners – in progress
  • improve and strengthen the bosses [or monster groups] guarding the door locks – in progress
  • reduce amount of loot found (players shouldn’t be maxing out their inventories prior to unlocking second set of doors) – pending until next test run
  • adjust loot tables for chests – done
  • possibly add a /cr regenall command upon entry of the dungeon to ensure all chests are ready – unable to do
  • alternatively reduce cool down time on chest refills – changed my mind
  • remove some npcs – changed my mind and adjust npc trade lists – done
  • correct pig zombie aggression levels (shouldn’t be passive on spawn) – done
  • add herb mixing tutorial guide book – done

It’s still a lot of work left, but it’s getting there.

I’ve created a new home world for players to spawn in for the first time. It’s an InfinitePlots world, so this should make sure new players have a place to build their headquarters/home base/estate. It includes:

  • an NPC village
  • an apartment complex for those who don’t wish to build a home
  • a chat cafe for those who like to log in just to chat
  • a newbie to Minecraft tutorial
  • a tutorial on the server’s plugins
  • a player mall
  • the world tree portal hub has been moved to this world
  • a dungeon tower: “Toad Tower of Terror” designed for a team to run through

I still need to build a post office for this world and then it will be ready for use.

Chapter 2 Mini Dungeon Adjustments

Of course there is always something when you first launch a feature. This story based mini dungeon is no exception.

Special thanks goes out to family members, MinePika94 and Zannewmar, for giving the new dungeon a test run!

To-Do List:

  • add more monsters/spawners
  • adjust loot tables for chests
  • reduce amount of loot found (players shouldn’t be maxing out their inventories prior to unlocking second set of doors)
  • possibly add a /cr regenall command upon entry of the dungeon to ensure all chests are ready
  • alternatively reduce cool down time on chest refills
  • remove some npcs and adjust npc trade lists
  • correct pig zombie aggression levels (shouldn’t be passive on spawn)
  • add herb mixing tutorial guide book
  • improve and strengthen the bosses guarding the door locks

As always, lots of things to do. Hopefully I can get it all worked out relatively soon.

Chapter 2 Mini Dungeon Complete!

Finally! I think I’ve got it finished and all the doors are locked, un-lockable, and reset-able. This makes the dungeon repeatable for all players. Now it’s ready to be opened to the players and tested out. I’m sure something is broken/buggy in there – always is on a first run.

Command Block Noob

Well I spent all last night trying to get the mini story dungeon using the Spencer Mansion done. I think I’ve got the Keys plugin working, but unfortunately the key leaves the door unlocked and I don’t see an easy way to reset the doors. I may go with my son’s lever/button idea after all. At least I can make those available with the RegenChests plugin and then use a command block that removes the buttons and levers once the player completes the dungeon.

Speaking of which, I had finally finished the dungeon using the Keys plugin and was setting up a command block to set the scoreboard objective for the story higher (so that players can’t skip chapters). Well, I messed it up and made the player parameter string too long and it caused the Netty to crash me out. After that, I couldn’t get back on and kept getting the same error. Ultimately I had to roll the server back, which fixed it, but naturally meant all the work I did last night was erased.

This is why I’m considering my son’s idea since I have to start all over anyway. Too bad I don’t have better working knowledge on redstone, otherwise I could probably work up better door mechanisms.

Looking for a Plugin that Locks Doors with a Key

I found a schematic that is a replica of the Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil. This really made my day and I felt it would be perfect for one of my mini story dungeons. However, it just doesn’t feel right that none of the doors are locked. Not to mention that because of this, players could just skip to the end of the dungeon and miss out on the story part. I’ve tried the plugin Keys, but since it’s beta it kicks up a never ending repeating error. This plugin sounds like it’s exactly what I want though, so I’ll be keeping an eye on it. In the meantime, I have some players chomping at the bit to give this story dungeon a run and need to figure out an alternative. Right now I’m trying to figure out how StickyLocks groups work and hoping that I can just make the permissions “key items” that are stored on the player’s data rather than in the inventory. If I can make it work, then that’s what I’ll run with.

Using Schematics on a Server and Giving Proper Credit

There is nothing worse than finding an awesome build that you want to use on your server because it fits so well and discovering there isn’t proper credit given to the original builder. That happened to me with this epic tree house I found that I’m using on my server as our world portal hub. Continue reading
